Progressive Muscle Relaxation

PMR is a simple practice of tensing one muscle group at a time and then relaxing the muscle group to release the tension. Doctors have used this technique to treat symptoms of anxiety, insomnia and chronic pain.

  • Inhale and contract one muscle group (feet, calf, thigh, gluts, abs, hand, biceps, face) for 5 – 10 seconds. On exhale release the tension.
  • Take 10 – 20 seconds to relax and then move up the body to the next group.
  • As you release focus on the change in the way the muscle group feels.
